Family Conflict
Our family structure helps us develop relationship expectations, communication skills, life outlook, the way we show our love, coping skills, and many traits through conditioning. Chronic family conflict can negatively impact your physical, emotional, and mental health. As the adult, you and/or your spouse decide on the tone for the family. The children and young adults in the family will observe and learn from the adult behavior.
Developing Conflict Management Skills
Key skills include cooperation (collaborative problem-solving), managing emotions (cooling-off periods before addressing problems), empathy (teaching perspective-taking and active listening), and communication (practicing respectful, clear dialogue). Parents should intervene before physical aggression occurs, allowing emotional regulation before facilitating solutions.
